Saw this quote from an Egyptian-Sudanese writer by the name of Kola Boof and was instantly bothered. The sentiment that Black women are not protected in the world isn’t what bothered me so much as the last part “she is the only flower on earth that goes unwatered.” I could be interpreting this wrong but…. There is a way to acknowledge iniquity without internalizing it and letting it affect your self-image and overall view of Black womanhood. And honestly, this is something I see a lot of Black women struggle with (understandably so). We should be relentless in detesting and speaking out against everything that seeks to bring us down but we should NEVER succumb to it by believing we are the way we’re treated. In order to nurture ourselves we cannot carry around with us false realities that we are these shameful, loveless creatures. Furthermore, why should anyone regardless of race or gender seek out love in a place that has clearly shown it is inept at loving?! No matter what you’ve been told you have a choice. Through your attitude and your perception you can choose to be more than anyone told you you should believe you are. I know that if I continue to work on keeping my spirit full and on mastering the art of positive thinking, I will NEVER be anybody’s unwatered flower regardless of how this shitty ass society chooses to regard me. I’m in this world, not of it. #rant #kolaboof #blackwomen #love #peace #harmony #andallThatgoodshit
